I am a bit of a novice really when it comes to Alfas, I did own a Giulietta sometime in the dim and distant past, boxy saloon with a fantastic twin cam engine, made luvly noises!

Anyway, I digress......I have bought a Spider 2litre Twin Spark, bloody silly at my time of life, not so much a mid life crisis, more sort a wee reward to meself for making it to get me pension. It is being delivered on Tuesday next all being well, so if any of you spots a bright yellow Spider wizzing around the lanes in N.Devon. well like as not that'll be me.

Dunno what else to say really, other than HELLOOOOOOO!

Cheers, Ray.

Cheers, Ray.

Re: Hi From Devon...

Thanks for the welcome Davey, I am a bit concerned about it as I bought it unseen off the internet, I just hope the bloke is a reputable sort of trader, and I don't get ripped off. Oh well, time will tell, cometh the car cometh the man, or summat like that. I shall have to see what Tuesday brings.

I have done a fair bit of reading up on the Spiders, most of it seems to be all good stuff, mine has only done 54k in 13 years, so shouldn't be clapped out, belonged to a little old widow lady, just used it to nip to the shops, honest guv!

Cheers, Ray.
PS. I dunno if this will work, but ....................

Cheers, Ray.

Re: Hi From Devon...

Very nice Sir, well done indeed.
You know the score wrt maintenance; cambelts/tensioners/variator every 3 years or 36,000 miles and keep an eye on the oil level probably every week or two. Get any knocking bushes sorted sooner rather than later.
Other than that fill her up and enjoy.

Re: Hi From Devon...

Hi Davey,

Yes I am aware of cam belts etc, my car is ok on the mileage, but overdue on the time. I need to find someone around N. Devon who is competent to do the job, I shall be treating the car very gently until the jobs done. I will have to have a hunt around the net. I would like to do the job meself, but I have a couple of health issues that might make that difficult, still if I can find someone I feel comfortable with............

Re: Hi From Devon...

Hi Ray,

For what it's worth our GTV is now up to 170k miles - ok so we replaced the engine 3k ago but it is still worth it. The twinny is such a joy to drive.

Always worth getting a silly retirement gift - mine was a V6 Spider last year when I hit 60.

Regards,

Paul.

Re: Hi From Devon...

Hi Paul,

Well she is being delivered this morning, around 10.00 hopefully, then it's down to the PO to see if I can tax her on my V5 green slip, I have been told I can, I would be well upset if I have to wait for DVLA to send me a new V5, they can take their time over it on occasions.

Oooooooooo-er! I am starting to feel a bit like a teenager on his first date!!!......

Cheers, Ray.

Re: Hi From Devon...

I know just what you mean Ray.

I, luckily, work in the same building as a DVLC office. Picked up the Spider on 1 June last year from the garage opposite (Avanti) with a new MOT and internet download of my insurance document - accepted .

So then I just blasted away - makes first date teenager very pale by comparison - I led an unexciting teenage life it must be said.

Anyway - did it arrive? If so - how is it?

Re: Hi From Devon...

Hi Paul,

Yes she arrived all in one piece, and so far very pleased. Got her taxed no probs, so as it was sunny here yesterday I dropped the top and went for a spin along the A39 passed Clovelly and Hartland..........Twas luvverly! She is very raucous, I think there may be a performance exhaust fitted, and it sounds like there might be a cold air thingy lurking in the standard air box, it kind of whistles anyhow??? (there is a Maxflow sticker under the bonnet) She certainly can go! I was also very impressed with her road holding, and I liked the quick steering.

If it doesn't tip it down today, I am going to investigate the exhaust system, it's a glorious sound, but I think I would like it a bit quieter

The hood is showing sign of it's age, (at least it doesn't leak as far as I can tell), but I they told me that so no complaints, I am going to see if I can find some sort of restoration treatment, my local car accessory shop tells me that the Auto Glym one is very good??? Any thoughts on that one would be appreciated.

Cheers, Ray.

Re: Hi From Devon...

Not that I am an expert having a GTV but people like Classic Alfa and Highwood Alfa where I have sourced most of the parts I needed for my Duetto being restored in Poland both of them offer the Renovo product range.

Its old but its fast

Re: Hi From Devon...

Hello Peppka,

Thanks for that, I have been looking at the Renevo stuff, it seems like it might do the job, I will see if I can find out anything about the Autoglym version, before I decide.

Cheers, Ray.
