Re: Duetto polished camcover and airbox

Duetto wheels "rounded" and powder coated ready for tyres to go on.

Interesting bought new 155-15 Toyo tyres from North Hants Tyres Aldershot for £48 inc VAT each which is not bad as it is a difficult size to get now (later cars where 165-14).
Longstone wanted £158 +VAT each for Pirelli Cinturatos and £160 +VAT each for Michelein XAS, daylight robbery!!
Toyos will certainly be better than the Pirellis and as good as the Michelins IMO.

Have unexpected problems with the gearbox though, thought would just have to renew synchro on 2nd the usual 105 series weakness but is much worse needs all new bearings and a couple of gears too expensive to repair .
However have managed to source a secondhand gearbox from Classic Alfa that has been checked and is OK.

Re: Duetto polished camcover and airbox

Undersealing Duetto was just done with stonechip when body painted but decided to underseal it properly and inject cavities with wax.
Here are some pics:[img=http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2558/dsc8951x.th.jpg]

Re: Duetto polished camcover and airbox

Getting 1600 engine cleaned up before assembly has been re-built in past, had used grotty piston rings.
As you can see engine is aluminium block (and head) with wet cylinder liners, will be replacing all gaskets, seals tab washers as a matter of course, new oil pump, fuel pump, timing chains, new piston rings pistons OK, regrind crank to plus 10 thou new main and bigend shells, little ends OK, valves OK just need grinding back in.

Re: Duetto polished camcover and airbox

Only thing I might do is put electronic distribtor (with no points) on as you can get them with several ignition advance curves pre-programmed in that take account of the differences in the petrol we have now and what was about 44 years ago when car was new.
You do have to admire the simplicity of the engine design though and its rugged construction all the webbing in the block supporting the main bearings makes it practically bomb proof. Similarly the head twin camshafts duplex chain drive no worries about cambelt failure or single cam chains stretching as on modern Alfas!
